The Makueni Recording Studio, which is funded and operated by the county government, has been nominated for the 2021 Music Cities Awards in the category of best initiative to directly support musicians.
Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana tweeted the news on Monday, expressing his delight at the studio’s international recognition, which came after it beat out more than 120 projects from 21 countries across five continents to make it to the list of nominees.
“The Music Cities Awards is a global competition designed to acknowledge and reward the most outstanding applications of music for economic, social, environmental and cultural development in cities and places all around the world,” Governor Kivutha Tweeted.

Makueni Recording Studio is now set to compete with two categories from the US and Canada.
The state-of the-art recording studio, which opened its doors in 2017, has so far recorded: 467 singles and 73 full albums for 385 artists.
Recording music at the studio, for Makueni-based artists is free.
