In a recent interview with Mungai Eve, Nicholas Kioko and Wambo Ashley shared how the arrival of their twin boys completely changed their outlook on life.
Kioko revealed that they spend about KSh 58,000 each month on formula for their twins. Ashley mentioned that she breastfed for the first three months but felt overwhelmed, which led them to switch to formula feeding.
“The kids have really kept us on our toes. Raising twins is not the same as raising just one child. You really need to be financially prepared for twins. I breastfed for the first three months, but it became too much. It wasn’t that I didn’t have milk; I just didn’t have enough. By the third month, I was exhausted. It was tiring, so since we had two babies, we decided to switch to formula,” Wambo Ashley explained.
Kioko then detailed the high cost of the formula they were using.
“At that time, we were buying a tin for KSh 1,960, which would last only 18 hours. That adds up to around KSh 58,000 a month. It’s very expensive, so don’t have kids if you’re not ready,” Kioko emphasized.
When discussing how they ended up living together as a couple, Kioko mentioned that it wasn’t planned, but the pregnancy brought them closer.
“The pregnancy is what made us start living together. She had initially refused to move in with me. I even moved to a different house, but she still didn’t want to come,” Kioko said.
“After I moved, we had a disagreement. I tried to persuade her to move in, but she refused, so I decided to stay quiet. The next day, she texted me saying she was coming to pick up her clothes in the evening. She came for her clothes and never returned. That’s how it ended, and later she found out she was pregnant,” Kioko added.
