A family in Ikolomani, Kakamega County is searching for their 17-year-old son who went missing.

According to Fredrick Omonyo and Valerie Mukhavi their son Neville Emmanuel Muka, a Form Three student at Kakamega High School was last seen at the institution on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

“We are still in shock after receiving the news that he went missing. There are no records of misconduct in school. He could not have left school without the authority of the school administration,” his family told Citizen Digital.

Further reports indicate that the boy’s mother was called last week by the school and was told that her son is unwell.

“We made a follow-up phone call on Wednesday and we were told that he is doing well. We called the school on Friday last week only to be told that our son left school for home,”

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Fredrick Odhiambo, an officer at human rights organization HAKI Africa called for a probe into the matter.

“We demand that the school and the Ministry of Education get to the bottom of this matter. We demand that the school tells us where the boy is. We are calling on the government to take action against the management of this school,” Odhiambo said.

Kakamega High School Principal Gerald Orina however said the student left the premises after he was denied a sick leave request.

“We are working with police to establish the boy’s whereabouts,” Orina added.
