The 14-year-old boy from Mandera County who was allegedly set on fire by his brothers has succumbed to the fire injuries.

According to a report issued by the DCI on Wednesday, the boy was undergoing treatment at Mandera County Teaching and Referral hospital but passed on due to his critical state from the burns.

“The 14-year-old boy had put up a brave fight for his life, but towards 2 a.m this morning. he gave up and went to be with the Lord,” the DCI report read.

Confirming the incident to the police, the boy’s distraught father Abdullah Hassan could not come to terms with the hideous act of his children.

“The deceased, a class seven pupil at a local primary school in Mandera was set ablaze by his elder brothers who feared that he might testify against one of them, accused of stealing a mobile phone,” an earlier report by detectives stated.

Police officers who saw the house as it went up in flames rescued the boy and rushed him to hospital.

Detectives have since arrested the perpetrators; Ibrahim Ahmed Shaur, 20 and Yusuf Ahmed Shaur, 17 who had gone into hiding following the incident.

“They are currently guests of the State at Mandera Police station being processed for the offense of murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code,” the DCI confirmed.

DCI further noted that the tragic incident left officers in a somber mood as they were all looking forward to the boy’s recovery.

“Our thoughts are with the family of Abdullah Hassan following the painful loss. We hope that the arrest of the two suspects will bring some semblance of justice to the family and friends of the young boy,” DCI concluded
