United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Paul Chebor has dethroned Raymond Kipruto Moi to win the Rongai MP seat.

Chebor, the newly elected MP, received 27,021 votes, while Moi, the outgoing MP, received 14,725 votes.

Luka Kigen of Chama cha Mashinani (CCM) finished third with 593 votes in a political contest that appeared to pit the Moi family against President-elect William Ruto.

“I thank the people of Rongai for believing in me. I promise to deliver and I will not let them down. I promise to work with all the residents irrespective of whether they voted for me or not,” the MP-elect said.

The outgoing MP, who had raised allegations of voter bribery, was the last member of the Moi family to hold a seat after his younger brother Gideon Moi was defeated in the Baringo Senate race by William Cheptumo.
