Deputy President William Ruto has welcomed Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua into the Kenya Kwanza coalition, just hours after Mutua left Raila’s Azimio La Umoja coalition.

Mutua severed ties with the Azimio la Umoja coalition on Monday, claiming that his party, Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC), had been kept in the dark about the Azimio la Umoja affairs and had yet to access or understand the coalition agreement.

DP Ruto praised Mutua for ditching Azimio, saying he has “rejected blackmail and conmanship” from the wrong leaders.

“The people of Kenya have rejected blackmail, deceit and conmanship in our politics. Those who’ve taken our country hostage using patronage, force and impunity watajua hawajui na Wakenya hawapangwingwi,” said the DP in a tweet.

“Karibu Gov Alfred Mutua & MCC party to Kenyan Kwanza family, the Hustler Nation.”

Echoing DP Ruto’s remarks, FORD-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula welcomed Mutua into the Kenya Kwanza camp, saying his inclusion ensures victory in the August elections.

“Congratulations Maendeleo Chap Chap and PAA for joining the Kenya Kwanza Alliance Coalition. Your entry brings in additional energy and guarantees, even more, KKA’s assured victory in the August 9th General elections. Hongera” he tweeted early Monday morning.

The Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu on Monday morning confirmed that MCC, alongside Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi’s Pamoja African Alliance party (PAA), had written to her office expressing intention to leave the Azimio Coalition.

PAA has parallelly joined the Kenya Kwanza political outfit.

Dr. Mutua said MCC party had sealed the deal on Sunday night, adding that he has copies of the agreement, “unlike in Azimio”
