Property of unknown value was destroyed after a fire broke out at Kibirigwi Girls High school in Ndia constituency, Kirinyaga County on Sunday.
The fire, which broke out at 9 PM, burnt down 5 dormitories, affecting 213 students out of the total 469 students at Kibirigwi Girls High School.
The first people on the scene were residents of Kibirigwi constituency who assisted in putting out the fire just before Karatina Fire brigade responded.
According to Ndia Deputy County Commissioner, Moses Ivuto, five out of the nine dormitories caught on fire were visible affected.
According to Ivuto, the cause of the inferno is yet to be established.
The Deputy Commissioner further confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of this unfortunate incident.
