Gruesome Discovery Leaves Family in Shock
A family in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, was left in shock after discovering the decomposing body of an unidentified woman inside a well they had been using to fetch water.
The disturbing incident occurred in Inoorero Village, Kamunyaka, where the family reportedly made the discovery while going about their normal routine.
According to a police report, the alarm was raised after Joseph Muriithi Kinyanjui went to fetch water from the well. While lowering the bucket, he noticed that it had become stuck on what appeared to be a heavy object at the bottom.
Concerned by the unusual obstruction, Muriithi reportedly used a torch to look into the well. He was horrified to see what appeared to be human remains submerged in the water.
The family immediately alerted the authorities, leading to the deployment of police officers and Kiambu County firefighters to the scene.
Emergency Team Recovers Body
The firefighters assisted police in retrieving the body from the well.
Authorities established that the remains belonged to a woman whose identity had not been established at the time of the discovery. The condition of the body suggested that it had been in the well for some time.
The remains were subsequently taken to General Kago Mortuary in Thika, where they were preserved pending further investigations and identification.
Police have not yet established how the woman ended up inside the well.
Investigators are now working to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
A postmortem examination is expected to help establish the cause of death and provide investigators with further clues.
Among the issues police are seeking to establish is whether the woman accidentally fell into the well, took her own life, or was placed there by another person. At this stage, investigators have not publicly confirmed any of these possibilities.
The discovery has left the family and residents with several unanswered questions, particularly regarding how long the body had been in the well without being noticed.
The incident has also raised concerns over the safety of the water source, especially for households that depend on wells for their daily water needs.
The well was reportedly being used by the family to obtain water for domestic purposes before the grim discovery was made.
