Williams Sisters Land Special Wimbledon Wildcard in Hopeful Bid for 6th Doubles Triumph

American tennis icons Serena Williams and Venus Williams are set to make a highly anticipated return to Wimbledon, after being awarded a wildcard entry into the women’s doubles draw.

The decision marks another chapter in one of the most influential partnerships in tennis history, as the Williams sisters prepare to compete together on the grass courts of the All England Club once again. However, neither Serena nor Venus has been included on the list of singles wildcards, although one remaining spot is yet to be announced.

Serena Williams, 44, recently stepped back into competitive action at the Queen’s Club Championships in London, four years after what was widely believed to be her farewell appearance at the 2022 US Open. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion—seven of which came at Wimbledon—has since continued her comeback in Berlin, where she partnered with Karolína Muchová in doubles play, building match fitness ahead of her return to SW19.

Venus Williams, 45, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has also continued to feature selectively on tour. Although she has struggled for consistency in singles this season, she remains competitive in doubles, having recently partnered with Britain’s Katie Boulter at the Madrid Open earlier this year. Venus also made history at the Washington Open last season, becoming one of the oldest players to win a WTA Tour-level singles match after defeating 23-year-old Peyton Stearns.

Together, the Williams sisters have reshaped modern tennis. Emerging in the late 1990s, they brought a combination of power, athleticism, and mental strength that transformed the women’s game. Between them, they have collected 30 Grand Slam singles titles, including 12 at Wimbledon, and have lifted the Wimbledon doubles trophy six times—first in 2000 and most recently in 2016.

Their return to Wimbledon 2026 marks their first appearance together since the 2022 US Open, which served as Serena Williams’ final Grand Slam before she stepped away from the sport. At the time, Serena indicated she was “evolving away” from tennis, shifting her focus toward family and business ventures, including her venture capital firm Serena Ventures.

Venus, meanwhile, has remained active on the professional circuit in a limited capacity. She also competed at the 2026 Australian Open after receiving a wildcard entry and continues to draw attention whenever she appears on tour, both for her longevity and competitive spirit.

Speaking recently at the French Open, Venus offered insight into her sister’s comeback preparations, downplaying concerns about form and rhythm.

“What I will tell you is she will not hit for four months and then pick up a racquet and suddenly hit a ton of balls—it’s incredible,” Venus said. “The quality of her stroke is still there. She’s a natural. She’s very tenacious.”

Their reunion at Wimbledon adds significant star power to the doubles draw and renews one of tennis’s most iconic partnerships on a stage where they have enjoyed some of their greatest successes.

Wimbledon is scheduled to begin on June 29, 2026, with anticipation building around whether the Williams sisters can once again produce the magic that defined an era of women’s tennis.
