Anfield Tribute Celebrates Two Brothers Lost Too Soon

Liverpool have revealed plans for a permanent memorial dedicated to late forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva following their tragic deaths in a car accident last summer.

Jota, aged 28, and Andre Silva, 25, lost their lives on 3 July in the Spanish province of Zamora. Silva had been playing for Portuguese second-division side Penafiel at the time of the accident.

Now, Liverpool have chosen to honour the brothers with a deeply symbolic memorial at Anfield titled “Forever 20,” reflecting both Jota’s iconic shirt number and the lasting connection supporters still feel toward him.

The sculpture features a flowing heart-shaped design inspired by Jota’s famous goal celebration. In addition, it includes both brothers’ shirt numbers — 20 and 30 — alongside lyrics from the song Liverpool fans sing in Jota’s honour during the 20th minute of every match.

According to the club, the memorial celebrates “their lives, their bond, and the love and respect felt by family, team-mates and supporters across the world.”

Fans’ Tributes Become Part of the Memorial

Liverpool have ensured supporters remain part of the tribute in a meaningful way. The club confirmed that designers incorporated physical tributes left outside Anfield after Jota’s death into the memorial’s stone plinth using recycled materials.

In the weeks following the tragedy, thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium to leave flowers, scarves, shirts, candles, and handwritten messages. The area around Anfield became a place of mourning as supporters from across the football world paid tribute to both brothers.

The memorial will stand permanently on 97 Avenue near Anfield, creating a lasting space for remembrance and reflection.

Although Liverpool have not yet announced an unveiling date, the club confirmed they will reveal further details in the future.

Jota’s Liverpool Legacy Lives On

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most important attacking players. During his four seasons at Anfield, he scored 65 goals in 182 appearances and played a crucial role in several major trophy successes.

The Portuguese international helped Liverpool win the Premier League, the FA Cup, and two League Cups while earning admiration for his relentless work ethic, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing.

Beyond his performances on the pitch, Jota built a strong bond with supporters through his passion, humility, and commitment to the club. His trademark heart celebration became one of the most recognisable symbols of his Liverpool career and now forms the centrepiece of the memorial design.

Meanwhile, tributes continue to arrive from former team-mates, managers, and fans worldwide, reflecting the enormous impact Jota and his brother had on those around them.

By creating the “Forever 20” memorial, Liverpool aim not only to preserve Jota’s football legacy but also to honour the close relationship he shared with Andre Silva — ensuring both brothers remain forever part of Anfield’s history.
