Barcelona produced a ruthless performance yesterday, sweeping aside Valencia 5–0 at Mestalla to maintain their perfect start to the 2026–27 LaLiga season.
Yamal shines again
Lamine Yamal was again at the heart of Barcelona’s attacking brilliance, scoring twice, while Fermín López delivered a standout performance with one goal and two assists. Raphinha and Pedri also found the net as Hansi Flick’s side dismantled Valencia.
Barcelona’s victory was particularly impressive because of the speed with which they took control. Yamal opened the scoring before Fermín added another, and the visitors continued to create chances with their movement and quick passing. Early in the second half, Yamal and Fermín combined to create Raphinha’s goal, effectively putting the result beyond Valencia.
Pedri later added Barcelona’s fourth before Yamal completed his brace, giving the Catalan side a five-goal margin and their fourth consecutive league victory.
The result leaves Barcelona alone at the top of LaLiga with 12 points from four matches, while they have scored 17 goals and conceded only two. Valencia, meanwhile, remain on just one point.
For Flick, the most encouraging feature was not simply the scoreline but the variety of Barcelona’s attacking threat. With Yamal, Fermín, Raphinha and Pedri all contributing, the champions demonstrated that they can overwhelm opponents from multiple areas of the pitch.
Barcelona now turn their attention to their next challenge, but their message after four matches is clear: the defending champions are setting an early pace that their rivals will have to work hard to match.
