Kenyan artist Ali Yusuf, known as Arrow Bwoy, recently opened up about an experience where his ex-girlfriend ignored him during a financially difficult time. Now happily engaged to fellow musician Nadia Mukami, Arrow Bwoy reflected on a day that left a lasting impact on him.

In an Instagram story, Arrow recalled planning a special day with his then-girlfriend on his only day off. At the time, he worked as a fishmonger at City Market, putting in long hours six days a week from 3 a.m. to 10 p.m., earning just 250 Ksh per day. Despite his tiring schedule, he was determined to make the day memorable. He prepared his bedsitter, made pilau, and bought gifts and roses in anticipation of her visit.

“There was this girl I dated back in my days at City Market when I was working as a fishmonger. I used to wake up by 3 a.m. and come back home by 10 p.m., completely exhausted from Monday to Saturday, earning only 250 Ksh a day,” he shared. “One Sunday, my only day off, she promised to visit. I was so excited—I got gifts and a beautiful bouquet just for her.”

That morning, they talked on the phone, and she reassured him she’d be there after church. But around noon, her phone went off, and he couldn’t reach her despite trying until 10 p.m. “I eventually gave up, keeping the roses until they dried up. It hurt, but I stayed committed to my work. After everything I did, she just disappeared. Mungu anakuona,” he shared.

Arrow said he also went “mteja” (unreachable) on her afterward, but the disappointment from that day still lingers.
