A 61-year-old woman is currently in police custody after she was arrested by detectives in Kiambu in connection to the issuance of fake Kenya Prison Service (KPS) college admission letters in Ruiru.

According to police reports, four persons were duped into collectively remitting Ksh.1.2 million to one Benson Ng’ang’a to obtain the said letters.

The victims have been identified as Nancy Nyawira, Moses Gitau, John Kebaso, and Mercy Wambui. Nyawira parted with Ksh.300,000 during the incident while Gitau and Wambui contributed Ksh.350,000 each. Kebaso likewise remitted Ksh.400,000 to Ng’ang’a, who has since gone into hiding.

Ng’ang’a, is said to have posed as a Kenya Prison Service officer working at the correctional facility’s headquarters when he approached the four victims with promises of guaranteeing them direct admission letters to the entity’s training college.

KPS has this week been actively enlisting new recruits to its ranks.

The four victims would however later discover that the admission letters were fake.

After reporting the matter to the police, detectives arrested the elderly woman who is currently assisting with investigations. She is expected to be arraigned in court on Friday.
