United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate Simon Kiambi has emerged victorious in the Kiagu Ward by-election conducted on Thursday.

Kiambi floored his competitors by garnering 2,240 votes in a tight race that saw his rival Milton Mwenda scoop 1,823 votes in second place.

Mwenda was running on Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party.

The race saw more than ten aspirants battle it out in the voters’ rich ward.

At the same time, Jubilee Party’s Donald Fundi won the Mahoo Ward by-election with 1,609 votes ahead of UDA’s Daniel Kimuyu who came second with 1,358 votes.

Deputy President William Ruto has since congratulated the two UDA candidates in the by-elections saying the results imply that party is making inroads nationally.

“The People of Kiagu and Mahoo wards in Meru and Taita Taveta counties have given the economic agenda of the Hustler Nation a big thumbs up. Congratulations Hon Simon Kiambi for winning in Kiagu and Daniel Kimuyu for coming second in Mahoo,” Ruto wrote.

“The Hustler Nation is strong. The bottom-up economic model is gaining ground.”
