Apple has officially unveiled its latest iPhone generation, with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max bringing a new A20 Pro chip, upgraded cameras, longer battery life and Apple’s next-generation AI features.
Apple’s latest flagship smartphones are now on sale, marking another major step in the company’s push to combine powerful hardware with artificial intelligence.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max were announced on September 9, 2026, with sales beginning on September 18. Unlike previous years, Apple’s current flagship launch is centred on the two Pro models, while the company’s new foldable iPhone Duo sits separately in the lineup.
The new Pro models start at $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, with both starting at 256GB of storage. Storage can now be configured up to 2TB, giving professional users considerably more room for photos, videos and other large files.

Apple’s official specifications confirm that both phones share most of their core technology, with the Pro Max offering the larger display and substantially longer battery life.
A20 Pro: Apple’s new powerhouse
One of the biggest upgrades is inside the phone.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are powered by Apple’s A20 Pro, built using a 2-nanometre manufacturing process. The chip features a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine, giving it a total of 32 Neural Engine cores for on-device AI processing.
Apple says the A20 Pro provides 50 percent more memory bandwidth than the previous A19 Pro, while its new GPU architecture can deliver up to a 40 percent performance increase over the previous generation.
The company has also redesigned the phone’s thermal system.
A new-generation vapor chamber has three times the surface area of the previous iPhone 17 Pro generation, according to Apple. The company says this allows the phones to maintain high performance for longer during demanding tasks such as gaming, video processing and AI workloads.
The biggest camera change
Photography is another major focus of the iPhone 18 Pro series.
Apple has introduced a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, marking the first time the iPhone’s main camera offers physical aperture control.
The aperture can move between ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4.0, allowing the camera to adjust how much light enters the lens and giving photographers more control over depth of field.
That could make a noticeable difference in two situations: low-light photography and portrait-style photography.

Apple says the Pro Max delivers its longest battery life ever in an iPhone, helped by a larger battery and greater efficiency from the A20 Pro chip.
Charging has also improved.
With a compatible 60W-capable adapter or higher, Apple says the phones can reach 50 percent charge in around 15 minutes. MagSafe charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes when paired with a 35W adapter or higher.
Display and design
The iPhone 18 Pro retains Apple’s aluminium unibody design, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back.
The Pro has a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, while the Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display. Both offer Apple’s ProMotion technology.
Apple has also redesigned the Dynamic Island, making it smaller while allowing it to display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.

Is the iPhone 18 Pro a major upgrade?
