The Memphis Grizzlies are mourning the loss of forward Brandon Clarke, who died at the age of 29. The franchise confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement, although authorities have not yet revealed the cause of death.
Clarke, who was born in Canada, entered the NBA as a first-round draft pick in 2019. However, injuries limited his appearances this season, and he managed to play only two games for Memphis.

In their statement, the Grizzlies described Clarke as both an exceptional teammate and a valued member of the Memphis community.
βBrandon was an outstanding team-mate and an even better person whose impact on the organisation and the greater Memphis community will never be forgotten,β the team said.
During his NBA career, Clarke played 309 games, including 50 starts, while averaging 10.2 points per game. Over the years, he earned praise for his energy, determination and commitment on the court.
Meanwhile, reports revealed that authorities arrested Clarke in Arkansas last month on charges including speeding and possession of a controlled substance.
Born in Vancouver, Clarke held dual Canadian and American citizenship after moving with his family to Phoenix at the age of three. He later developed into a standout college player at San Jose State before continuing his rise at Gonzaga.
Although the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him in the 2019 NBA Draft, the team traded him to Memphis shortly afterwards, where he became a key figure in the Grizzlies squad.
Despite his injury struggles this season, Clarke still travelled to the United Kingdom in January when Memphis defeated the Orlando Magic in London.
In addition, his agency, Priority Sports, paid an emotional tribute to the late player.
βHe was so loved by all of us here and everyone whose life he touched,β the agency said. βHe was the gentlest soul who was always there for his friends and family.β
NBA commissioner Adam Silver also honoured Clarkeβs legacy, describing him as a respected leader within the Grizzlies organisation.
βAs one of the longest-tenured members of the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved team-mate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit,β Silver said.
