Steve Harvey Visits Rwanda, Explores African Partnerships, and Champions Africa’s Potential
Renowned US comedian, TV host, and Emmy award-winning entertainer Steve Harvey is in Rwanda, where he met with President Paul Kagame. The private visit has sparked widespread interest as Harvey expressed admiration for Rwanda’s resilience and journey of forgiveness.
The meeting with President Kagame was a pivotal moment during Harvey’s visit. Harvey shared his reflections on Rwanda’s transformation since its troubled past, describing it as a “testament to the nation’s strength and acts of forgiveness.” In a heartfelt post, he remarked, “We had the pleasure of sitting and meeting His Excellency, my brother, President Paul Kagame. I was truly inspired by his strength and humility. A testament to Rwanda’s resilience and acts of forgiveness.”
President Kagame welcomed Harvey warmly, emphasizing their productive discussion on potential areas of investment and collaboration. The talks explored opportunities in various sectors, particularly events and entertainment. “President Kagame met Steve Harvey during his visit to Rwanda. Their discussions focused on potential areas of investment and partnership in various sectors, including events and entertainment,” the President’s office stated.
This visit comes as part of Harvey’s broader vision to strengthen ties with Africa and uplift its creative industries. In May 2024, Harvey had met Kenyan President William Ruto and revealed that meeting African leaders was a significant goal on his vision board. During their encounter, Harvey shared his belief in Africa’s untapped potential and the need to bridge the gap between the continent and the global community.
Harvey reminisced about being the first to bring a television show from the United States to Africa, an achievement many deemed impossible. “I was the first person to ever bring a television show from America and tape it on the continent of Africa after everybody told me it couldn’t be done,” Harvey said. “They told me it wasn’t feasible, that Africa lacked the infrastructure. But I went over there and proved them wrong because Africa is most capable.”
He further stressed the deep connection between Africa and the African diaspora, stating, “If there was no Africa, there would be no African-Americans. You are who we are.” Harvey’s efforts aim to create a bridge between Africa and the world, showcasing the continent’s talent and fostering international collaboration.
During his May meeting with President Ruto, Harvey was invited to visit Kenya, which he plans to do in December 2024 as a guest of honor during the country’s Jamhuri Day celebrations. Harvey will also use this opportunity to engage with Kenyan creatives and discuss avenues to grow the entertainment industry further.
Harvey’s upcoming visit to Kenya will coincide with preparations for filming his popular TV game show Family Feud, set to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has expressed his commitment to amplifying African voices in global platforms and helping build stronger networks between African nations and the rest of the world.
The 67-year-old entertainer has always credited his faith for his success, often sharing his gratitude publicly. Before rising to stardom, Harvey made a vow to God that if he achieved his dreams, he would honor Him and spread positivity. He continues to fulfill this promise by thanking God at the end of every show and inspiring audiences with his journey.
Harvey’s visit to Rwanda and his ongoing engagements with African leaders demonstrate his dedication to creating meaningful connections and investing in Africa’s growth, particularly in the creative and cultural sectors.
