Japanese toymaker MegaHouse has introduced a miniature Rubik’s Cube so small that you might need tweezers to manipulate it.
Each face of the cube, crafted from aluminum, measures approximately five millimeters (about 0.2 inches) across. It became available for pre-order on the manufacturer’s website on Thursday, with deliveries anticipated for next April.
“The 5-millimeter Rubik’s Cube is the result of the collaboration between machines, cutting tools, and the passion of players,” stated Kiyokazu Saito, president of Iriso Precision, the company responsible for the precision cutting, in a promotional video on the toymaker’s site. This tiny model surpasses the previous record held by British puzzle designer Tony Fisher, who created a 5.6-millimeter version in 2016.
However, its price suggests it is likely meant for collectors rather than casual players. Weighing only 0.3 grams (approximately 0.01 ounces), this puzzle is about one-thousandth the size of the original Rubik’s Cube, which has faces measuring around 2.2 inches. Each of the nine squares on its six faces is merely 1.6 millimeters (around 0.06 inches) across.
MegaHouse revealed that the concept for this tiny cube was developed four years ago, and production began in 2022. In August, the Guinness World Records confirmed it as the world’s smallest rotating puzzle cube.
