Huddah Monroe Criticizes Reality TV

Huddah Monroe Questions the Value of Reality TV, Faces Backlash from Fans

Veteran socialite, former reality TV star, and successful beauty mogul Huddah Monroe has stirred controversy online after publicly sharing her disdain for reality television and lifestyle content. This unexpected critique comes as a surprise to many, given her past appearances on two reality TV shows and her repeated discussions about possibly featuring in another. Huddah’s remarks have ignited heated debates across social media, with fans and critics alike weighing in on her opinions.

Huddah took to her Instagram stories to express her views at a time when global interest in reality TV shows like Young, Famous & African is at an all-time high. The entrepreneur dismissed the genre entirely, stating she finds it nonsensical and lacking in substance. “In all honesty, after watching all these reality shows, how did it change your life? Did you learn anything? Did it have an impact on your life in any way?” she wrote, questioning the value of such content.

Huddah Monroe sparks debate after calling out reality TV and vlogs, saying she’d rather watch cats and dogs than someone’s life on screen.

She didn’t stop there, also criticizing lifestyle YouTube vlogs and videos, arguing that she could never understand why people are so interested in watching others live their lives. “I’d rather watch videos of dogs and cats before I watch a reality show or someone’s life on a YouTube vlog. I can’t even watch myself,” she added, doubling down on her opinion.

These remarks sparked an online firestorm, with many reality TV fans accusing her of bitterness and jealousy. Social media users quickly jumped into the fray, throwing jabs at Huddah and dissecting her motives. One commenter said, “She sounds jealous and bitter. Girl, bye.” Another added, “She’s just mad because no one is offering her a role anymore.” Others criticized her for being too negative, with one urging, “Learn to support and appreciate people, Huddah.”

Fans speculated that Huddah’s comments might stem from her current lack of presence on television. During a Q&A session in August 2024, the entrepreneur revealed she had been approached to join several reality shows, both locally and internationally. However, she turned down those opportunities, citing disagreements over compensation. “They can’t pay me enough… Actually, they can, but they refuse to,” Huddah explained.

Adding another layer of irony, Huddah had previously admitted she’d be a perfect fit for reality TV because of her outspoken personality. “I have verbal diarrhea, and I get everyone’s info because people like to tell me things. If they put me on a reality show with some of your faves, I’ll need like 10 bouncers because that show will be murderous,” she joked.

While Huddah’s criticism of reality TV is the latest topic to make headlines, it’s not the first time she’s raised eyebrows with her opinions. In early 2024, she deleted all her Instagram posts and relaunched her profile, opting to share only selective details of her life. When asked why she’d stopped posting photos of herself, she responded, “I lost interest in sharing all the details of my life publicly. But that doesn’t mean I won’t post. I’ll post what’s necessary.”

Despite her divisive statements, Huddah remains a prominent figure in Kenya’s entertainment and beauty industries. She has built a successful cosmetics empire and continues to be a trailblazer, even as her outspoken nature often puts her at odds with her audience.

The backlash surrounding her latest comments only adds to her reputation as a polarizing yet undeniably influential personality. While some fans applaud her for speaking her mind, others believe her remarks are a ploy to generate buzz and maintain relevance. Whether intentional or not, Huddah’s opinions have sparked meaningful conversations about the value and impact of reality TV and lifestyle content in today’s media landscape.
