Videos from the scene show mourners running for safety as the attackers began shaking the tent where VIPs were seated. Plastic chairs and other objects were thrown, escalating the situation further. The disruption left property, including vehicles, damaged. As several mourners sustained injuries and had to be rushed to hospitals for treatment. Fortunately, Gachagua was not harmed during the incident and managed to leave the venue safely.

Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was among those affected, as his car was vandalized in the chaos. Speaking about the incident, Kaguchia termed the attack “well-coordinated” and raised concerns about the security arrangements for the former Deputy President.

“While in the company of HE Rigathi Gachagua at a funeral in Limuru, we were attacked by well-coordinated goons in a most unfortunate turn of events,” Kaguchia said. “It’s shocking that those against HE Rigathi Gachagua have now resorted to violence and goonism.”
