Radio icon Alex Mwakideu celebrates 20 years in broadcasting with a glamorous party
Kiswahili radio personality Alex Mwakideu is celebrating two decades in the broadcasting industry with a grand celebration. The Radio 47 presenter hosted a stylish party at the Sarit Centre Alloy Lounge on November 20 to mark his remarkable broadcasting journey. Guests were invited to enjoy a black and gold-themed affair to honor his milestone.
Among the notable guests were fellow personalities such as Wilbroda (aka Nyaminde), Mwende Macharia, Jalango, Mca Tricky, King Kaka, Dr Ofweneke, Obinna, Vijana Barubaru, and Churchill. These individuals, many of whom have shared the microphone with Mwakideu over the years, were excited to join the celebration.
Reflecting on his career, Mwakideu shared the challenges and rewards of being in the radio industry, including his past experiences with co-hosts like Jalang’o and Mca Tricky. “When you start working with someone like Jalas or Mca Tricky, there are always challenges. People don’t know, but behind the scenes, there’s a lot of conflict,” Mwakideu revealed.
Despite the struggles, Mwakideu spoke of the satisfaction he feels after two decades in the industry. “It feels amazing. Two decades is no small feat. Seeing my people around me today, it feels really rewarding,” he said.
The radio host also reflected on his unexpected path into the media world. “I never studied journalism. I began with radio commercials, acting as a young boy, and making just 5K a month. Eventually, I transitioned to reading, and that’s how I got my start,” Mwakideu explained.
Known for his no-nonsense approach, Mwakideu credited his strictness for his success. “I don’t tolerate nonsense. The people I’ve worked with can tell you—after every show, we would argue,” he shared, adding that his most difficult co-host was Jalang’o. “He didn’t listen. He used to give me a hard time because he was confident in his own way.”
Mwakideu’s journey is a testament to his resilience and determination in the face of challenges, making his two-decade career in broadcasting a remarkable achievement.
