“President Ruto Allocates Sh100 Million for Safe Home, Safe Space Campaign to Combat Gender-Based Violence”

President William Ruto has allocated Sh100 million to the Safe Home, Safe Space Campaign, a nationwide initiative dedicated to combating gender-based violence (GBV) and supporting survivors.

The campaign, which will run during the 16 days of activism starting on November 25, 2024, aims to provide essential resources and safe environments for victims, while also promoting community awareness to prevent further instances of GBV.

The allocated funds will be used to establish safe homes across the country, offering survivors secure spaces where they can receive shelter, medical care, and psychological support. These homes will provide immediate relief to victims, addressing the rising cases of femicide and GBV in the nation.

Speaking during a meeting with women leaders at State House, President Ruto emphasized that the initiative would also focus on improving existing resources for survivors. A significant portion of the funds will be used to upgrade gender-based violence desks at police stations, hospitals, and other public institutions, ensuring survivors have confidential spaces to report abuse and access support services.

The government will ensure that these facilities are well-staffed, trained, and equipped to handle cases effectively. The campaign also prioritizes providing psychological counseling and legal aid to survivors, helping them heal from emotional trauma and pursue justice.

In addition, the Safe Home, Safe Space Campaign will include extensive community education efforts. Workshops, media campaigns, and outreach programs will educate the public on recognizing the signs of abuse and available resources.

President Ruto stressed the importance of collective action, urging schools, churches, and community organizations to play an active role in educating young people about the signs and causes of abuse and supporting victims.
