A tragic fire ripped through Kitui Village in Pumwani, Kamukunji Constituency, on Tuesday evening, causing widespread destruction. At least six people have been confirmed dead, while over 16 others sustained injuries. The inferno destroyed more than 50 homes, leaving many families displaced and the community in deep mourning.
Residents reported that the darkness, thick smoke, and narrow access routes made it extremely difficult to rescue people or fight the flames. Emergency responders also faced significant challenges as they worked to contain the rapidly spreading fire.
Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan expressed his condolences, calling the incident one of the deadliest fires in the area. “At least six lives have been lost in this devastating blaze, and my heartfelt condolences go out to the residents of Kitui Village who have lost loved ones,” he said.
Emergency teams continue to search the area for additional victims while authorities investigate the cause of the fire. Displaced families are urgently seeking assistance to rebuild their lives after losing their homes and belongings.
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris also shared her sympathy, offering condolences to the families of the eight victims. “The fire has left 16 others injured and destroyed approximately 50 houses, displacing many families. I urge the government and relevant agencies to expedite investigations and provide much-needed support to those affected,” she said.
