Citizen TV’s Senior Investigative and Current Affairs Reporter, Seth Olale, recently opened up about deeply personal and little-known aspects of his life in an interview with Greenbell Media on October 24. Reflecting on his journey, Seth shared how he entered the workforce immediately after graduating from Alliance High School, eager to build his future.

“After my final Form Four exam, by Monday, I was already working as a cleaner at a restaurant called Hipo Point,” he said. Over the next year, his hard work paid off with promotions from cleaner to waiter, and eventually to cashier, with his salary rising from Sh4,000 to Sh6,000. With a dream of becoming a journalist, he saved his earnings and enrolled at Daystar University.

However, alongside his career growth, Seth endured profound personal tragedies. He recounted losing his daughter, June Wendy, during a family holiday in Watamu. At only six or seven years old, June accidentally drowned, despite desperate efforts to save her. Seth recalled the helplessness he felt in the ambulance, hoping against hope as they rushed her to the hospital.

“In that moment, I felt like the world was falling apart. I was in shorts, barefoot, bare-chested, just holding onto hope, but ultimately, I lost her,” he said, describing the painful memory of carrying her to the morgue.

Years later, Seth suffered another heartbreak, losing his young son—one of his twins—to pneumonia. His son was in the ICU for over a week, during which Seth himself fell ill from the stress and anguish.

“I spent over a week in the ICU with my son. I wasn’t eating, I wasn’t doing anything. Eventually, I even got sick myself,” he shared. Through the pain, he found solace in the friends, neighbors, and colleagues who rallied around him.

Seth expressed his deep gratitude to those who supported him through these dark moments. “I really thank the people who walked with me. The support from friends and neighbors was incredible,” he said.

Despite these painful losses, Seth remains committed to his career in journalism, using his platform to tell meaningful stories. These experiences, though devastating, have strengthened his resolve and deepened his appreciation for life and the people around him.
