During his appearance before the parliamentary Committee on Education, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu refuted concerns of alleged malpractices in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam, whose results were released in January.
According to Machogu, the performance of Kisii and Nyamia counties, which had been scrutinized for their impressive results, had been exaggerated in the media. He explained that Kisii and Nyamira counties actually had the least number of Grade As in the Nyanza region, while Siaya County had the highest number of As in the region with 72, followed by Homa Bay and Migori with 62 and Kisumu with 59. Kisii was ranked second to last with 51 As, while Nyamira was the last with 30 As. Kiambu County had the highest number of As with 226.
