MARTHA KARUA ON HER PRESIDENTIAL AMBITIONS-“GOD WILING ONE DAY I WILL SERVE IN THAT CAPACITY”

NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua has stated that she still plans to run for the country’s top political seat in the future.

Speaking Monday morning to Radio Citizen, Karua stated that although few women have expressed interest in presidency before, she is determined and has what it takes to run the country.

“I ran in 2013 and lost, but I still have unfinished business with presidency, so God-willing one day I will serve in that capacity,” said Karua.

The former Justice minister, who was last month elected as the interim spokesperson for the Mount Kenya Unity Forum, has so far declared that she will be running for the Kiriyaga County gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general elections.

“I can serve Kirinyaga County the same way I believe I can serve nationally,” she told Radio Citizen, adding: “there is no small position, serving Kirinyaga people is serving Kenyans.

Karua further reiterated her disavowal for chasing the country’s second powerful seat despite pressure from a section of leaders, saying she wants to focus on a position she can independently fight for.

“A Deputy President’s position is not something you contest, you just hang around and be nice to others, waiting to be called. If you want service stand on your own,” she stated.

Karua has so far expressed interest in the Kirinyaga County gubernatorial seat even though she has not ruled out the chances of her changing her mind if approached by someone she would consider ideal to be their running mate.

Other candidates in the race for position are Governor Anne Waiguru, Woman Rep Purity Ngirici, former Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi, former Mwea MP Peter Gitau, Chomba Ndau and sitting Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri.
