Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok has been put under house arrest following a military coup.
Local media reports indicate that an unidentified military force besieged the Prime Minister’s house early this morning.
According to Al Hadath TV, a military force also arrested several civilian officials including the prime minister’s media adviser and a member of the country’s ruling sovereign council.
Sudan has been on edge since a failed coup plot last month culminated in a power sharing tussle between the military and civilian groups after the ousting of former leader Omar al-Bashir in the 2019 street protests.
According to a transition agreement, elections were due to be held by the end of 2023.
