MONICAH KIMANI MURDER TRIAL

Brian Kasaine, one of the witnesses in Monica Kimani murder case told the High Court that murder suspect Joseph Irungu shot himself following an argument with co-accused Jacque Maribe.

Kasaine who testified before justice Grace Nzioka says Jowie appeared disturbed days after news of Monica Kimani’s death broke out.

Appearing before judge Grace Nzioka as prosecution witness Brian Kasaine, who was Jacque Maribe’s neighbor at Royal Park estate in Lang’ata said Jowie the first accused in Monica Kimani’s murder shot himself.

Kasaine during a cross examination by the defense lawyers Katwa Kigen and Hassan Nandwa, counsel for Maribe and Jowie respectively, told the court that Jowie who had earlier borrowed his firearm had a fall-out with then fiancé Jacque Maribe before shooting himself, reportedly protesting being evicted from Maribe’s house

“Irungu was lying down and he was bleeding I secured the firearm from the house, then I went and now took him to the hospital,” Kasaine said.

Kasaine further revealed that Jowie had earlier called him via whatsApp at 2am on the 20th of September requesting for paraffin to burn some things.

Pictures of the burnt items outside the co-accused house were also shown in the court.

“I was asleep with my wife, when his call woke me up. He enquired if I had paraffin in my house. I asked him why he needed the paraffin, and he said there were things he wanted to burn,” Kasaine added.

Another witness Mugambi Kiara who works as head surveillance at Jomo Kenyatta international airport told the court that DCI requested for surveillance footage showing movements of Monica Kimani at the airport after arriving from Juba. Kiara denied knowledge of the contents of Monica’s luggage.

The Monica Kimani murder trial resumed on Tuesday, eight more witnesses have lined up to testify by the prosecution on 25th and 26th of October and on 11th and 15th of November.
