255 PEOPLE TASTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 FROM A SAMPLE SIZE OF 6,305 IN LAST 24HRS

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced that 255 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 6,305 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now at 4.0%, with total confirmed infections rising to 248,770 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,543,687.

From the cases, 249 of them are Kenyans while 6 are foreigners; 138 are males and 117 are females, while the youngest is a 4-year-old child and the oldest is 91 years.

The cases were distributed across various counties namely; Nairobi 51, Kitui 27, Nakuru 14, Garissa 13, Murang’a 11 Uasin Gishu 10, Kisii 10, Kericho 9, Nyeri 8, Kiambu 7, Laikipia 7, Makueni 7, Mombasa 7, Kakamega 6, Isiolo 5, Meru 5, Migori 5, Turkana 5, Tharaka Nithi 5, West Pokot 4, Marsabit 4, Kisumu 4, Lamu 3, Mandera 3, Nyandarua 3, Siaya 3, Busia 3, Embu 2, Machakos 2, Tana River 2, Baringo 2, Kajiado 2, Narok 2, Taita Taveta 1, Wajir 1, Kilifi 1 and Kirinyaga 1.

The ministry also announced that 508 patients recovered from the coronavirus, with 458 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 50 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries stand at 241,180.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe however noted that 7 patients succumbed to the disease, one of them having occurred in the last 24 hours while six are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in September 2021. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,116.

“A total of 1,078 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 2,303 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 77 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 47 of whom are on ventilatory support and 30 on supplemental oxygen,” said the CS in a statement.

“No patient is under observation. Another 349 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 336 of them in general wards and 13 in High Dependency Units (HDU).”

A total of 3,664,721 vaccines had so far been administered across the country as of September 27, 2021. Of these, total first doses were 2,771,051 while second doses were 893,670.
