“New Suspect Arrested in Lang’ata Cemetery Murder Case as Investigation Unveils Key Evidence”

Detectives investigating the gruesome murder of a woman whose dismembered body was found at Lang’ata Cemetery on October 31, 2024, have arrested another suspect in connection to the case. The latest suspect, Jared Mong’are, was apprehended in Eldoret and is believed to have played a key role in organizing the victim’s movements and managing financial transactions linked to her last days.

Following intelligence leads, investigators tracked Mong’are to a hideout in Eldoret, where they allege he facilitated payments for the victim’s stay at Lavington Valley Heights Apartment, the suspected crime scene. Authorities say Mong’are also transported the victim and the main suspect, Hashim Dagane Muhumed, to the location in a Toyota Vitz, registration KDD 737Q. This car was later found at Ngara Civil Servants Estate and has been impounded for forensic analysis.

During the arrest, a blood-stained panga, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered, alongside other key evidence expected to shed light on the victim’s final moments. Investigators have since revealed that the apartment where the victim was last seen with Muhumed was rented as a short-stay space by a Kilimani businesswoman, Alice Mbinya, at Sh55,000 monthly. A recent rent increase prompted Mbinya to begin vacating the apartment on November 1, a day after CCTV captured Muhumed leaving with bags suspected to contain the victim’s remains.

As part of their probe, detectives questioned Mbinya, who confirmed that her belongings, collected from the apartment, had been transported to her Kilimani residence and a business location in Gatundu. During a search, investigators found a handbag believed to belong to the victim at Mbinya’s home. Further examination of items at her Gatundu location uncovered a second blood-stained panga, despite attempts to clean it.

Detectives also revealed that Muhumed allegedly used the victim’s phone to contact her family after her death. A forensic investigation of Muhumed’s digital activity led officers back to Lang’ata Cemetery, where they found a mobile phone in a bag containing clothes matching those worn by the presumed victim, Deka Abdinoor Gorone.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has committed to thoroughly pursuing justice in this case and has called on anyone with relevant information to assist in the investigation.
