Kenyan President William Ruto Addresses Security Concerns in Sudan: Calls for Regional Cooperation for Peace and Stability

In response to the recent outbreak of violence in Sudan that has left nearly 270 people dead and over 2600 others injured, Kenyan President William Ruto has urged for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Ruto expressed his deep concern over the deteriorating situation, emphasizing the need for regional and continental cooperation to address the crisis.

In his statement, Ruto highlighted the devastating impact of the conflict, which has resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives, extensive damage to property, and the displacement of civilians. The Kenyan president urged all parties involved to prioritize peace and stability, calling for a swift resolution to the conflict in Sudan.

Kenya has expressed its grave concern over the violent conflict that has erupted in Sudan due to a misunderstanding over the time frame for integrating the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) into the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), which was the only outstanding issue in the Political Framework Agreement. This disagreement has escalated into a military confrontation between the parties to the agreement.

Both the RSF and SAF have indiscriminately deployed lethal weapons and air power, targeting military and non-military objectives, resulting in extensive damage to property, including strategic public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and airports. Furthermore, members of the diplomatic community have been targeted, and civilians have become victims of the conflict. The violation of established norms and principles of international humanitarian laws has become a pattern, posing a threat to regional and international peace and security.

In light of these developments, Kenya remains deeply alarmed and calls for all parties involved to prioritize the safety and well-being of civilians, respect international humanitarian laws, and work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
