Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative and gubernatorial candidate Wangui Ngirici has filed a petition seeking the nullification of the election of Ann Waiguru as Kirinyaga governor.
Ngirici’s petition was filed on Wednesday at Kerugoya High Court by her legal team, saying she has evidence that the outcome of the poll was manipulated to suit Governor Waiguru.
In the petition, the former woman MP has sued the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC), while the county returning officer Jane Gitonga, Waiguru and her deputy David Wachira Githanda are listed as first, second, third and fourth respondents respectively.
In the August 9 Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest, Waiguru was declared the winner after garnering 113,088 votes, with Ngirici second after garnering 105,667 votes while Charles Kiburi came distant third with 22,065 votes.
Other candidates were Safina Party’s Peter Gitau who garnered 10,166 votes, first Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi who gathered 3,937 votes on TSP, Muriithi Kagai of Narc-Kenya who gathered 1,751 votes and Chomba Ndau who got 532 votes under a Kadu Asili ticket.
Waiguru was officially sworn in two weeks ago, on August 25, where she called on her political rivals to join hands with the administration in a bid to ensure the country gets development.
