WETANGULA SPEAKS ON DEFENDING SENATE SEAT

Bungoma Senator and Kenya Kwanza Alliance co-principal Moses Wetangula has defended his move to keep his senatorial bid despite his deal with the Deputy President Wiliam-led coalition.

Wetangula who has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to defend his seat says that he is not interested in personal benefits should the coalition ascend into power come August.

“Many people, especially the Azimio team, have been asking why I want to defend my seat yet we have shared the government nationally in Kenya Kwanza. I want to say and repeat here again that am not looking for personal gain nor personal aggrandizement,” the senator said on Sunday.

“The 30 percent we have shared as the Mulembe Nation in Kenya Kwanza government is intact. We shall have 22 ministers in Kenya Kwanza where Ford Kenya shall have three cabinet secretaries and ANC another 3 cabinet secretaries, including permanent secretaries, ambassadors, and many other senior government positions,” he added.

According to Wetangula, being cleared to run in the General Election has given him time to focus on popularizing DP Ruto’s presidential bid.

“We have cleared this step and I will now move to focus on the national campaigns for our Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Dr. William Ruto,” he stated.

He exuded confidence that Kenya Kwanza has influence in the Luhyia community, saying that their arch-rivals in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition should not expect any substantial votes from the Western region.

“Yesterday you all saw the Azimio team walking in Bungoma stressed with no one to listen to them. They should know that Bungoma is fully under Kenya Kwanza,” said Wetangula.

He further downplayed Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa’s support for the Azimio coalition with alleged prospects of remaining in the cabinet under an Odinga presidency, saying won’t happen since Kenya Kwanza will carry the day.

Wetangula is facing off ODM’s Lawrence Sifuna, Charles Ngome of DAP-K, Rev Herman Kasili of UDP, and Jacob Machacha for the Bungoma senator seat come August.
