DPP NOORDIN HAJI THREATENS TO TAKE ACTIONS AGAINST TSC OVER TEACHERS INSECURITY

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has threatened to take action against the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for failing to put in place policies that protect teachers in areas of the country prone to insecurity.

According to DPP Haji, it is the responsibility of the commission to find solutions to issues affecting teachers in insecurity-prone areas and not the community nor its citizens.

In Asia, the DPP said, education is a matter of national security, as such, it was high time that insecure regions such as Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, and Samburu get augmented security to enable access to education.

He similarly called for the creation of a department within TSC to deal with affirmative action for teachers in regions that have security issues and find solutions to ease access to education.

Haji was speaking at a Garissa hotel during a TSC stakeholders’ engagement session where he called for the abolishment of mass transfer policies for teachers.

On her part, TSC Vice-Chairperson Leila Ali said that the commission had given retired teachers a chance to be rehired on a 3-year contract to fill vacant teaching positions but none of them showed up owing to insecurity fears.

Ms. Ali consequently urged the teachers to apply for the positions in order to better their communities.
